If you are a Cinema4D user and have been trying to create smoke and fire simulations, you’ve probably been gazing enviously at 3DStudioMax users, as their go-to plug-in FumeFX was probably the best tool to create realistic fire on the market. Sitni Sati, the company behind FumeFX, just announced that their smoke & fire simulation Plug-In is in development for Cinema4D.
It’s actually been years ago where I gave up on hoping that this plug-in would make it’s way to Cinema4D. Yes, in the meantime we did get a number of options for creating fire within Cinema4D. From Houdini (assets) with its steep learning curve, over TurbulenceFD (I still have a license sitting somewhere) to X-Particles.
FumeFX 5.0 – Another fire simulation tool?
FumeFX 5.0 looks like it is combining the Houdini “Hollywood” quality of simulations with the ease of use of a lightweight plug-in like TurbulenceFD. Sitni Sati’s plug-in has a very long list of Hollywood movie references (from basically every Marvel franchise movie over Independence Day to VFX Oscar-winning Hugo Cabret).
And when looking at the sneak peak video below, using FumeFX for Cinema4D is as easy as applying a bunch of tags and modifiers to your scene. It looks very light weight.
I’ll probably need a powerful machine for this, right?
If you are a heavy GPU render user (like Octane and Redshift) you’ll love the fact that the plug-in will utilize your graphics units and use your GPU power to calculate those nifty and detailed 3D infernos.
With over 12 years of development and Hollywood VFX experience, you can expect this to be a solid tool right from the get-go.

QCG Solver, Oxygen Combustion, Vorticity, Wavelet Turbulence, tight integration with Thinking Particles and network rendering via Deadline FumeFX 5.0 for Cinema4D will probably be your best bet from now on for creating the best possible smoke & fire simulation.
