Is This The New Canon G7X III?

When talking about high-end compact cameras, everybody is inevitably pointing at the pricey Sony RX-100 series. And there is only one other brand that seems to be able to compete with Sony’s powerful compact and that’s Canon with the rumored Canon G7X III.

With its 3rd generation, Canon is going to build a very well rounded camera with incredible specs built into a very small form factor. Meet the Canon G7X III.

Canon G7X III – The Most Capable Compact Ever Built?

Over the years these high-end compacts have become very powerful workhorses (despite their small form factor). Big sensors (1-inch), high frame rates, good low light capabilities are things that every photography and even video enthusiast would always want to have in their pockets. Let’s take a look at the rumored specs:

  • 20.1 Megapixel 1-inch back-illuminated CMOS
  • DIGIC 8 Processor
  • RAW files @ up to 30 fps?
  • 4K video
  • FullHD 120fps
  • 3.5mm microphone jack
  • Wi-Fi & Bluetooth
  • Size: 105.5 x 60.9 x 41.4 mm
  • Weight: 304g

Mic Input – Youtube Vloggers Dream

According to the rumors, this camera seems to check a lot of boxes. That one thing that everybody was missing from the competitors (Sony RX-100 series with no mic input) is putting Canon’s small powerhouse right on top of the list for every Youtube Vlogger as well.

The rumors are not exactly pointing out if the Canon G7X III will come with Canon’s infamous Dual Pixel Focus, but it’s safe to say that every Youtuber out there will buy this well-rounded camera right away if it does.

Usually, Canon’s G7X cameras usually are significantly cheaper than Sony’s equivalent so if you are looking for a very capable compact camera with strong video specs then the G7X III seems to be a no-brainer. Canon will probably reveal official infos in the next weeks/months. We will definitely check it out and put it to the test against or own Sony RX-100 Mark V.
