In this weeks Copycat Friday tutorial CineComNet is looking at the new Rudy Mancuso video “Stories From Our Future” where they are recreating 3 of the effects seen in the video.
The first effect is a hologram effect of 2 people trying to touch each other. For this effect to work you will just have to shoot one hand in front of a greenscreen, apply the keylight effect within After Effects and put it on top of your main clip (the other hand). Then just apply a glitch effect (in this case a clip from their sponsor is being used). With some clever timing and restricting that glitch effect just to the hand (by applying the track matte effect), it will look like both hands are distorting a hologram when they collide.
Effect No.2 comes in 2 parts. First they are tracking a mark on the next of the talent. Then with the Tracker window this mark is being tracked and applied to a Null object. In the next step a simple expression is applied to a text layer so it looks like a counting battery level display. As a final step a clever combination of track matte, hue/saturation and roughen edges will make the text look like an led screen sitting right under the first layer of skin of a cyborg.
The last effect is the popular eye glow effect. For that simple After Effects shapes are being animated and enhanced with hue/saturation set to colorize to quickly change the color of the shapes and slightly blur it with the Gaussian Blur effect. Then again the eyes of your source footage are being tracked to align the shape animation to it.
And once again CineCom is showing us that it’s really simple to add some compelling effects to your video with a few steps within Adobe After Effects. Head over to the video below to follow along step by step and recreate that Rudy Mancuso trending video on Youtube:
