With the Sony A7R Mark IV that has been presented just a couple of days ago, it’s clear that we will see a huge wave of hands-on videos very soon. Philip Bloom has always been in the forefront when it comes to camera reviews and already has delivered a hands-on video from the official Sony event.
Sony A7R Mark IV – Disappointment For Videographers
Of course, Philip is looking at the camera more from a filmmakers perspective, which leads to the inevitable conclusion that the camera is actually a disappointment. Many videographers have been complaining about the lack of 4K/60p and no 10-Bit recording & output. According to Philip, who has extensive experience with all Sony mirrorless cameras, the video is more or less exactly the same as in the A7R Mark III, with one big exception and that the new eye-tracking AF.
That’s the really interesting part of this hands-on video because around 2 minutes into the video you can see an interesting eye-tracking autofocus test. It’s really interesting how the focus is locking onto the model while she is moving around.
But again, this camera maybe was not really intended to use for video by Sony. If you ignore the fact that a couple of video accessories have been presented and the eye-tracking AF has significantly been improved for video, this is a photography beast nonetheless. And Sony definitely has enough room to position the long-awaited Sony A7S Mark III which will definitely bring everything to the table what the A7R Mark IV has left desired. Let’s see how the first Philip Bloom hands-on will turn around when that one is being presented.
